License, Credit Card and Other Requirements


Please read this section carefully as it provides important information about the minimum requirements to place a successful reservation, including which documents you need to bring with to collect the rental vehicle.

Rental Requirements

1. You must be 21 years or older to rent a vehicle.
2. You must be in possession of a valid unendorsed driving license.
3. You must have been in possession of your drivers license for a minimum of 2 years.
4. We only accept Master and Visa Credit Card as method of payment.
5. The name on the credit card must be the same as the name on the driving licence

Please note: We do not accept any debit cards, credit cards, EFT’s or cash payments.

Rental Requirements for International Renters:

1. Valid driving license and passport from the country of residence.
2. The license must be in English.
3. The license has a photo or ID/passport number on it.
4. The license has a signature on it.
5. Credit card must be in the name of the renter.

In the event that a photo is not present, the ID document or passport with a photo is required for the identification of the customer.

In the event that the license is in another language, an international drivers license should accompany the foreign drivers license. No driving permits or certified copies/copies of the original drivers license, may be accepted.

We may refuse to release the vehicle to anyone who;

1. Does not hold a unendorsed driving licence valid for use in the country of rental for the entire rental period
2. Has not brought an international driving licence or official translation (if applicable)
3. Has not held their licence for the minimum period required by the company
4. Has driving related conditions
5. Does not meet our security or credit checks
6. Behaves in an unacceptable way, e.g. if we believe that any driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs or you or anyone in your party, is abusive or threatening to any of our staff or customers
7. While making the payment fails any of the checks and leads us to believe that said person, the Renter, the driver or additional drivers results in the rental being deemed high risk.


The Renter must use an approved payment card that is in the Renters name and has enough funds available.

1. The rental amount plus a R 5,000.00 refundable deposit will be reserved on the card before the vehicle can be released.
2. A daily rate is calculated per 24 hours cycle with a 1 hour grace period. Should the Renter/ Driver return the vehicle late and the time exceeds the grace period then an additional days rental will be charged to you.
3. The price of optional extras, e.g., Delivery & Collection fees, Additional driver, Baby seats etc. are calculated based on the start end dates and times.
4. The renter may change the booking any time before the day you are due to collect the vehicle by calling reservations (subject to availability).
5. The renter may cancel the booking at any time before the day you are due to collect the vehicle by calling reservations (subject to availability).
6. The renters bank, not the Motion Car Rental & Shuttle Services, is responsible for releasing the pre-authorisation and processing approved refunds, and this can take up to 14 days.
